Welcome to our elegant, artfully curated and spacious home in the heart of Bentonville, AR. Named after the late, great pilot, author, equestrian and writer, Beryl Markham, who wrote “West with the Night.” We honor her epic tirp across the Atlantic, life growing up in Africa, and the natural state of Arkansas she reminds us of. I also highly recommend reading, “Fly Girls”. Local pilot, Louise Thaden, rocked too! We love flying and female heroines.
We are on the north end of Main street - the perfect blend of quiet, convenience and outdoor adventure! We are an eight minute stroll to Bentonville Square, five minute drive to the renowned Crystal Bridges Museum, and one minute spin to the finest mountain biking trails in the US.

“Everything about this place is lovely…. the house is beautiful, so tastefully decorated/furnished…..the linens/toiletries are first class plus the host generous & most helpful. Everything is nicely organized. The interior spaces are large & comfortable. The location is very convenient to downtown shops/restaurants also next to biking trails. Thanks, Deb! Your home made our enjoyable visit to Bentonville even better!”

“Africa is mystic; it is wild; it is a sweltering inferno; it is a photographer's paradise, a hunter's Valhalla, an escapist's Utopia. It is what you will, and it withstands all interpretations. It is the last vestige of a dead world or the cradle of a shiny new one. To a lot of people, as to myself, it is just 'home.”

Meet Wesley and Buttercup, our two resident sheep. This house was built on former farmland, so they are right at home.

These curvy vintage pencil reed dining chairs were an Instagram sensation. After 1671 likes they were mine! Score!

Gourmet kitchen and great memories around this bar we have had.

We call this room, Jill (after Jack and Jill). Elephants were the first big game I saw on my epic trip to Kenya and Tanzania 20 years ago. Since then, I sponsor an elephant in Kenya, named Kunene, after the river that borders Namibia and Angola.

The primary suite houses some of our favorite art work by photographers Renate Aller and Slinkachu. This is also the most luxurious mattress and linens we own! Sleep well.

Appropriately, this room is called Jack. It's a little more masculine than Jill's room and has some fun old fashioned toys. The rhinoceros was picked up on a trip through Brazil.

The primary bathroom includes a soaker tub, three head walk in shower, his and her sinks and an enclosed toilet.

The main floor office has a full screen and printer if you need it but we hope you don't have to work when you're in town. Go for a walk at Coler! The white chair was a custom design after an Art Deco chair I fell in love with that was too small.

Jack and Jill shared bathroom has his and her sinks, shared tub/shower and toilet in a separate room.

I like to call this room the Music and Meditation room or Ladies Lounge area. The paint color is Caldwell Green by Benjamin Moore. I loved it so much when I saw it at Louise, I asked the architect to hook me up.

We eat most meals at this bar, but the dining room seats six. We shipped those chandeliers from Maui.

The media room is great for watching movies or a game! It's our pop art room. The rug is Morrocan and was carried on my friend's head through the windy streets of Fez.

Welcome to Main Street.

Neon signs are a staple in my design projects. It's also, sooo Bentonville.

Local artist, muralist, and awesome chick, Roxy Erickson, painted this mural, honoring the Arkansas state flower, the Apple Blossom.

This cozy outdoor area is great for sundowners, although the sun sets on the other side of the house.

The Bocca sofa was the first thing I bought for this house. It makes me laugh everytime I come home. I hope it does the same for you. Art sculptures are a staple around town, but we might be the only one who a sculpture on their front lawn. The only non natural thing in this house is our lawn. After three failed attempts to make sod grow, we broke up with it. Hello, turf!

The back porch is enclosed by a living ivy fence. It's not completely private but our little neighbors are adorable. The littles, as we affectionaly call them, will probably come knocking for Scooter, our resident pug.

Arkansas is home to 428 species of birds. This bird installation and bird references throughout is our ode to them.

I have lost count but we have a lot of plants in the house. They are all real and they stay alive because we have an amazing plant lady.

An African Head Dress in Jill's room - where else?

I have an obsession with pottery, so this collection is one of many throughout the house ranging from blue, green, to pink. More is more I say.

This vintage Chairish find is a favorite and the inspiration for the mural in "The Loft" suite above the garage.

A decade birthday gift to myself was this custom and natural mobile by California artist Karolina Maszkiewicz. It hangs in our dining room.

Twigs, just because. The simplest things are beautiful.

We hope you find time for a soak in Epsom salts with the candles on and music playing.

I think coffee tastes better in these mugs. I just love that they are all different. You'll find some other ones from Oklahoma potter, Frankoma, in the drawer. You can also find an Air Ship coffee shop down the street with great coffee and baked goods if you're feeling lazy and want a little stroll.

Beryl Markham. I read her book, "West with the Night," when I was 22 and have several copies of it throughout the house. She was a fine human-being and amazing pilot.

The art in the background is one of my favorites - a crumpled piece of paper by a Canadian artist, Malcolm Rains. The African basket I found in Cape Town and hand carried on my 28 hour trip home. Those are Ostrich Eggs and Arkansan Quartz on the table.

I just love these wings. You can find another set in clay at the base of the first floor stairs.
“Deborah and Matt's home was impressive. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The house is stunningly decorated, has a lot of character, and is incredibly comfortable. The attention to detail was evident, inside and out. The location was perfect for our mountain biking vacation with my three boys. There was easy access to the biking trails and downtown. Deborah and Matt were not just hosts, they were the epitome of hospitality. Their warm welcome and attentive care made our stay even more enjoyable. Their hospitality was very much appreciated and made us feel valued as guests. If you plan a vacation to Bentonville, you will not be disappointed staying here.”

“Many Airbnb locations put up these amazing pictures - then you get there to be slightly let down. This was the other way around - the pictures don't do the home justice! Absolutely beautiful, amazing location, responsive host - 10/10”

“Amazing Place! This is my wife’s favorite place we have stayed over the years. We would love to stay here again. It’s close to downtown and the biking trails.”
